The Department of Education hosted the nutrition week celebration at Schuitdrift Primary School, a farm school under Musina Local Municipality.

Through the school’s feeding scheme, learners are provided with balanced and nutritious meals that not only fuel their bodies, but also supports concentration and academic performance. “Food such as fish is rich in omega 3 which improves eyesight and brain functionality and calcium, which is good for bone development. The meals are carefully packaged to meet the children’s needs.” said Vutomi Mashaba, a Dietician.

For many learners, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds who may not always have access to regular meals at home, the feeding scheme is more than just a feeding initiative, it’s a reliable source of nourishment that supports both their health and their capacity to learn effectively.

Nutrition week celebration serves as a reminder that healthy eating is the foundation of lifelong wellbeing and ensuring that no learner is hindered by hunger.

Amongst the guests were Musina Mayor, Cllr Nkhanedzeni Godfrey Mawela who pledged to support the school during his annual back to school campaign.
